DR. JAMES EBEL

VICE PRESIDENT, PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT 

Dr. Ebel is currently Vice President of R&D with responsibility for Product Development including Product Formulation, R&D Compliance, Packaging Engineering, Process Development & Commercialization, R&D Design, Analytical & Microbiology, and R&D Engineering at Mary Kay Inc.  Prior to joining Mary Kay, James was a Research & Development executive manager, scientist, and engineer at P&G and Pfizer Inc. with over 30 years of experience bringing beauty care, health care, and consumer products to market.

Dr. Ebel has broad experience in leading global Product Development, and in R&D Strategy and New Business Development.  He has an extensive background in managing multifunctional, global organizations through all phases of product development including technology identification and development, product design, consumer concept development, technical-based claims development, product qualification, and manufacturing process design and scale-up.  His key areas of expertise are building state-of-the-art product development organizations, tools and capabilities, corporate venturing growth models, internal lean startup methodologies, innovation pipeline development, and open innovation including technology and product search and acquisition.

During his career, Dr. Ebel has lead organizations covering a wide range of products, sciences, and technologies including skin care and color cosmetics, pain management, respiratory care, gastrointestinals, oral care, sleep, dietary supplements & nutritionals, and infant care.

Dr. Ebel received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.  He is currently an adjunct professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
